Ciarán Madden

Ciarán joined the team at International Living in September 2019 as the managing editor of The Savvy Retiree. He has a master’s degree in international relations and was a long-time resident of East Asia, working as a writer and editor for a daily broadsheet newspaper and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan. A native of Waterford, Ireland, Ciarán is an eternal student of Mandarin, keen follower of politics and international affairs, and eager advocate of lesser-known Asian dishes, from xiaolongbao to pork belly gua bao. And as a former expat who enjoyed every minute of his time overseas, he is passionate about sharing the myriad joys of seeking out new income and travel opportunities and exploring paths less taken.
